Step back in time and experience the most glamorous decade of all: the roaring twenties! Immerse yourself in the sparkling decadence of the jazz age, where flappers danced the night away and speakeasies reigned.
We'll pay homage to the era of Gatsby, Mobsters, and Prohibition by raising a (perfectly legal) glass as we ring in the new year! The newly-renovated but still classic interior of the Metropolitan Ballroom creates the perfect backdrop for this glittering affair and it will most certainly be a night for the history books.
Guests at our 2019 event requested more 1920's music this year, and we listened! We'll be featuring the vintage vocal stylings of singer Mia Dorr before moving into dance hits of the 20's and 30's. As we get closer to midnight, popular Twin Cities DJ Jay Strangelove will be spinning a mix of top 40, electro-swing, dance, disco, old school, and house as we ring in the new year.
Timeline of Music*:
7:30: Live 1920's lounge vocals from Mia Dorr
9:00: 1920's dance and electro-swing
10:45: DJ will transition into a mix of top 40, electro-swing, dance, disco, old school, and house as we get closer to midnight.
Doors for this event will open at 7:00 for VIP guests, who are invited to enter through an exclusive VIP entrance with expedited check-in and complimentary coat check. From 7:00-8:30, VIP guests will be greeted with a complimentary glass of champagne. General Admission guests are invited to start their evening at 8:00.
Located just 5 minutes outside of downtown Minneapolis, the award-winning Metropolitan Ballroom has been newly renovated in the fall of 2019. This stunning reimagining brightened the space, adding new flooring, beautiful light fixtures, and a magnificent, custom glass chandelier over the dance floor while still retaining its classic elegance and nods to the past. “My design inspiration for this project was every classic Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dance scene” says D’Amico & Partners’ founding partner and venue designer Richard D’Amico. With free on-site parking, the Metropolitan is an exquisite choice to ring in the new year and we are thrilled to present our 2020 bash at this elegant venue.
About our Vocalist: Mia Dorr has been a singer in the Twin Cities music scene for over 20 years. She is currently a member of the vocal group YOLO, her powerfully entertaining duo with DiDi in The Mia Dorr Show, as well as her engaging and enthralling solo show at the Twin Cities' premier speakeasy Al's Place. Mia has competed in 3 national vocal competitions where she placed first and 2 national vocal competitions where she placed second. She released a cover album in 2007 and her first original album in 2012.
About our DJ: Jay Strangelove is a near-permanent fixture in the local dance music scene since starting out with Minneapolis ex-patriate DJ Echo back in the late 90's. Since that time, he's thrown countless events featuring himself, locals, and many of the world's best house and electro producers, and spun sets that, back to back, would probably fill five years' time. A man with many residencies and the best "club" hair on the scene, Strangelove will keep the dancefloor full all night long.
About Us: Beckworth Events, through its close collaboration with NYEMPLS, has earned a reputation for throwing spectacular New Year's Eve parties. In 2016 NYEMPLS's Studio 54 event was featured nationally on NBC’s New Years Rockin’ Eve with Carson Daly. Other recent NYEMPLS events for which Beckworth Events acted as a co-producer have included The Black & White Ball and Magic: 24K New Year's Eve at the Hyatt. After last year's successful solo NYE event at the Metropolitan, Beckworth Events is excited to showcase yet another exciting New Year's Eve celebration for you!
